artist’s statement
I enjoyed a wonderful career as a professional architect for 42 years — 34 of which I was a partner and Director of Design for my own firm. After retiring from full-time practice in 2015, I began pursuing my longtime interest in art as a second career. I have always drawn and spent the first few years doing detailed pencil drawings. I have shown this work at several art festivals and shows around the country. During the COVID lockdown I began exploring more abstract mixed-media expressions in my work. I think of these new works like jazz music compositions — which often begin with a theme and continue as improvised ideas. I see a story or just a thought in each of my works — pencil or mixed-media. The title of each piece hints at the story.
